Here I'll collect links that fulfill some or all of the traits outlined in The Manifesto. I am not requiring these sites to fulfill all the traits listed there, but they must enable some significant amount of what is discussed there.

Web Hosts

To have a personal website like this, you need a web host, so here I'll link to some different web hosts. I will say if they have free or paid options, or both.

neocities - The current web host of this site, the New Old Web. This host is free for 1 GB of storage and charges $5 per month for 50 GB of storage.

Search Engines

While I think that more effort should be made to have human curated links for the web, I think there will always be a place for search, as manually archiving any significant percentage of the web existing today is simply enormously impractical. However, as most modern search engines are built to return the results to the user that are most likely to earn them money rather than the results that would necessarily be most useful or that the user most wants to see, I think it is worthwhile to collect links to any search engines that don't do this.

Marginalia - "This is an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed."

Oldest Search - Gives you results focusing on the oldest pages on the web. That's not a page the Google search will show you.

OpenVerse - "Openverse is a tool that allows openly licensed and public domain works to be discovered and used by everyone."

New Old Web

Newer websites which have a significant amount of the traits listed in The Manifesto, regardless of whether that was specifically the intent. Sites launched in 2000 or later go here.

Fandom

Dracula Daily - "The email newsletter that sends you Dracula in bite-sized pieces."

Original Works

Mycorrhiza's Space - An art gallery, blog, and more run by Mycorrhiza.

EarthShine - An illustrated webnovel by Mycorrhiza.

The Elder Sites

A list of old websites that still exist or still actively update. To qualify as an 'old' site, the site has to have been created before the year 2000.

Fandom

TheForce.Net - Star Wars fan site and forums. Has (fairly unobtrusive) ads.

The Mushroom Kingdom - Nintendo gaming fansite. Has (fairly unobtrusive) ads.

TheOneRing.net - From their about page: "Founded in 1999 by a group of like-minded Tolkien fans so anxious for the coming Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings films that they were gathering up every scrap of production information to be found, TheOneRing.net continues today in bringing fans the latest news on the beloved figures involved in the making of the wildly popular Lord of the Rings movies as well as the newest information available on upcoming productions, Tolkien-centered events, new publications, and fan gatherings."

Squidgeworld - From their About page: "SquidgeWorld Archive is brought to you by Squidge.org, a fan owned and fan run organization that has been around since the early days of Internet fandom. Squidge.org came about in 1994, and hopes to be here for years to come. Please remember that Squidge.org is independent of The OTW and AO3; we just utilize their open-source software for SquidgeWorld Archive."

Hobbies and Recreation

The League of American Bicyclists - "For generations past and to come, the League of American Bicyclists is the grassroots movement to create safer roads, stronger communities, and a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone. Through education, advocacy and promotion, we work to celebrate and preserve the freedom cycling brings to our members everywhere." According to this archived page on the Internet Archive, their website has been around at least since Dec 9, 1996. I was unable to locate a definitive start date for the website itself, likely because the organization's history is considered more important, and it long predates the origin of the site itself. But if I can find a definitive start date for the website, I'll add it here.

Personal Pages and Blogs

A list of personal pages and blogs that contain useful information.

Ken Kifer's Bike Pages - Personal reflections and how-tos on bicycling.

The Bicycle Mechanic - how to repair and otherwise modify a bicycle. Has (fairly unobtrusive) ads.

Web Archives

OldWeb.Today - JS Browser Emulation for archived websites like Geocities.

Wayback Machine - A large and popular web archive.

Web Help

Tips, tools, and other assistance to help you get started with creating your own website.

RSS HOWTO - A guide for setting up an RSS feed for your site.

simple.css - A simple stylesheet that uses existing HTML tags to create a style for your page. This site uses the simple.css stylesheet.

Software

Decker - The creator's site of the retro-style slide-set software Decker. Epilepsy Warning: Software (not the website) contains some flashing stroke and fill textures which could possibly cause issues for those with epilepsy. These are not visible on the welcome screen, but are accessible through various menu choices.
